Working with Howard Himmelman and the team at AHS, I created the north to south illustration movie poster to be used in all current marketing, including magazine ads, email campaigns, and T-shirts.

What kind of grand marketing ideas would you like to employ? Let’s work together to create something big and solidify your business as a change maker.

RubyRuth Charcuterie Boards

RubyRuth is connecting with clients! How are they doing this? Their products are very tactile, textured and need hands touching them. To get the word out about the quality and beauty of their natural wood  and hand sewn pieces, RubyRuth owners Dani and Will have decided to gift charcuterie boards to special clients.

In the featured photo, Will is awarding Annette her very own branded charcuterie board. Thanks RubyRuth!! This board will be serving fruits and cheeses at many events sponsored by AFD, and of course Annette and her partners will be promoting Dani and Will’s handcrafted wares as people eat.

The importance of small sample gifting affects the potential customer. It reveals that you are thoughtful in business and in life. And it is a reminder of RubyRuth every time they host a gathering.

How To Connect With Customers Through Thoughtful Gifts

Logo Design – Razzolink

Some companies choose to go with a type face logo, and forgo a separate symbol to represent the company. Razzolink is a local Internet service company that I have worked extensively with. After researching, and exploring symbols and logo marks it became clear that the name itself was visually strong and could hold its weight with the right font. A professional designer can help showcase your business in the best light.

Whether you use a logotype or a logo mark or both really depends on a boatload of factors. How cool is your company name? Is it memorable? Maybe the letters in the name are interesting? With Razzolink, the strength of the double Z make the name stand out. They are a wireless internet company, and the ‘link’ icon has been way overused, therefore was off the table.

Here is an article that goes deeper into the topic:

Picking Value-Loaded Images

Picking value-loaded images of employees to use on a website and printed brochures will make a company stand out during these strange times when many customers are complaining about the lack of service in many industries. Great company culture can be your differentiator…as long as you really do have great employees who care.

First things first. I suggest that business owners budget a photographer into their yearly marketing dollars. Nothing says ‘pride’ and ‘authenticity’ in your brand more than showing a client meeting, a person creating the product, or happy employees working well together.

Whether custom photos are taken, or stock photos are licensed, it is imperative to discuss the core values of your business and who your customer base is with your designer. He/she needs to understand where you are coming from and where you want to go so the best images can be placed in marketing materials.

The photo in this post is an excellent representation of this commercial construction company’s brand values. They have happy diverse employees who are appreciated by management. This owner wanted to show potential large project customers that they have a solid employee base that can handle big jobs. This image supports and illustrates the text in all marketing assets.

Create or choose quality, value-loaded images to get a good ROI. The trend is to show company culture so a smiling employee that shows pride in what they do will go a long way in exhibiting just that.

Please connect with AFD if you are looking to storyboard your next photoshoot, or if you are interested in stock photo packages.

How Does My Logo Translate?

How does your logo translate? Is it strong enough to show in a single color? Can it be reduced to a small icon, or at least adapted? Will it stand out in a crowd; on a busy background; on a billboard? These are all important questions to ask yourself and your designer when building a new visual brand mark. Not all businesses need a billboard, but a logo that works in one color will be an asset when it comes to a variety of marketing tools like embroidered clothing or when placed on a busy background.
In this image, I made a fun sketch of my Annette Frei Design (AFD) logo. How would your logo translate to a graphite pencil drawing?

The Decaf Company Editorial Graphics

Who loves coffee? Who’s a tea drinker? Editorial graphics, illustrations, and icons are a great way to supplement statistics, whether it’s finance, wellness, or even how much coffee people drink.Live healthy graphic

the decaf company homepageConceptual illustrations were created for a new decaffeination product by The Decaf Company. The client needed images that helped tell the story of the invention and the brand. We discussed the process and the outcome as well as the demographics of the end user. They were interested in attracting food companies for support. Approximately 12 icons and graphics were drawn to use on the website and print materials.

Could your statistics use a little visual help? Let’s talk. And again, coffee or tea? Personally, I love a little chai tea with a hit a chocolate.

Inspiration – Quote from Stephen R. Covey

As I continue on my way, with my choices (health, purpose, family, giving, exciting projects, openhearted relationships…etc.), the Covey book, Daily Reflections of Highly Effective People is by my bedside. Every few days, a few pages of quotes are good for a bit of inspiration. The book can be read one day at a time for a whole year, or it can be done like I do…reading three or four pages and bending the pages that I connect with. I have gone back to go through my bent pages a few times now to get reminders.

“I can change. I can live out of my imagination instead of my memory. I can tie myself to my limitless potential instead of my limiting past. I can become my own first creator.”

STEVEN R. COVEY

We have to tap into our imagination’s potential and create our best work.
